When it comes to Zelda fan projects, one of the most popular types of content comes in the form of arrangements of songs from the franchise. With a series as musically rich as Zelda, there are plenty of pieces to choose from, and plenty of ways to re-arrange them. Thanks to groups like ZREO: Second Quest, we know that the classic music of Zelda can be greater than just the midi arrangements we’re used to.

On January 23rd, 2024, ZREO: Second Quest (formerly Zelda Reorchestrated) announced on their website and X (formerly Twitter) page that they were starting a project called “Scoring Sessions,” which is “dedicated to creating live orchestral recordings of music from the Legend of Zelda series. It’s an on-going series where fans can experience their favorite Zelda tunes reimagined with the depth and vibrancy of a full orchestra.” Fans will even be able to donate their preferred amount to decide which piece of music will be arranged and recorded next.

To offer just a taste of what these amazing arrangements will be like, the group has already released the first piece, an arrangement titled “Midna,” containing melodies from Twilight Princess. You can find that arrangement on YouTube here, or the HDR recording exclusively on Bandcamp here. The sweeping orchestra and phenomenal choir have me excited for whatever piece is next!

The next two pieces in the running are an arrangement of “Ballad of the Windfish” [sic] from Link’s Awakening and “Hyrule Field” from Twilight Princess. If you would like to donate to the cause and vote for the next arrangement, you can do so here.

Donating at any level will not only let you vote for which track comes next, but it will also grant you a credit on the ZREO: Second Quest website, early access to the videos and recordings, and a digital download of the piece in question. If you decide to pay $10 USD or more, you’ll be given influence on what tracks will be included in the next voting round, exclusive access to the scores of the arrangements, a special Discord role, and the ability to listen in on the recording sessions live!

What do you think of these amazing arrangements? Will you be contributing to Scoring Sessions? Let us know in the comments below!
