Zero Punctuation looks at The Wind Waker HD

ZeroI mentioned a while ago that I was a fan of Ben ‘Yahtzee’ Crowshaw’s Zero Punctuation review series, even if the videos haven’t been as funny as they used to be. He has reviewed a few Zelda games over the years and, while they haven’t been especially positive reviews, he has stated a few times how much he enjoyed The Wind Waker on the GameCube. He is probably one of the few people that actually enjoyed spending ages sailing between the different islands as he thought it gave a sense of a truly vast world. With the release of the HD remake of the game, I was hoping he would do a review of it and he has.

Make the jump to see what he thinks of it!

It’s good to see he’s back on form with, what I thought was, one of his funniest videos for a long time and he does bring up some interesting thoughts about the game. I never really thought about how buying soup would destroy the potion economy! Seeing as he liked all the sailing in the original version, I wasn’t surprised when he was moaning about the Swift Sail and the Triforce shard hunt being cut down. However, it’s good to see that, even with those changes, he still enjoyed the game.

He previously reviewed Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks and Skyward Sword but he didn’t have a lot of positive things to say about either of them. I guess it stands to reason that if you like a game, you’re going to like a HD remake that takes on broad fan criticism and improves on them, even if you liked the areas most people criticized. Hopefully he’ll do one for A Link Between Worlds.

Do you agree with him? What did you think of the remake? Are you now going to try contributing to the potion economy? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
