Throughout the Zelda series, we have never gotten more than a glimpse or mention of Princess Zelda’s mother. Sometimes her mother is not mentioned at all, or is merely stated to have died prior to the game’s events. This is the case for Breath of the Wild‘s story. The player is shown through various cutscenes and events that the Queen of Hyrule died suddenly and left without teaching her daughter how to use their sacred power. Although most players would have brushed it off as a sad event, Macintyre Rise dives further into the game’s events and forms his own theory behind the Queen’s death.

In his theory video, Macintyre discusses the possibility that Princess Zelda’s mother played an unwitting role in Calamity Ganon’s resurrection. He mentions that the Yiga Clan possibly needed a sacrifice while they were seeking to resurrect Calamity Ganon, and their target may have been Princess Zelda. But after the death of the Queen, Macintyre notes a much more grim possibility that crossed the Yiga Clan’s thoughts. They may have used the Queen’s corpse as a means to resurrect Calamity from deep within the castle, and it was probably how the palace was immediately overtaken by the evil forces.

If you want to check out more of this fascinating theory for yourself, you can watch the video above. And if you’re still intrigued, you can visit Macintyre’s channel for even more Zelda theories.
