Zelda Fanart Spotlight – Waiting for the Hero of Time

Today’s Zelda Fanart Spotlight is on deviantART artist erenik‘s Ocarina of Time fanart titled, “Waiting for the Hero of Time“. This fanart shows Skeik waiting for Link to reappear in the Temple of Time after he pulled the Master Sword from its resting place. The scene that appears once Link awakens from his seven years of slumber is an iconic one since Sheik is the first character that he encounters once he returns to Hyrule. It is Sheik that helps Link find out what he needs to do and sends him on his way.

All I must say though is that Sheik must be a very patient person to be able to wait for Link to reappear for seven years. Not very many people have that much patience.

This is one of my favorite scenes from Ocarina of Time. There’s not much going on in this scene other than Sheik telling Link what to do next, but I feel that it’s one of those more important scenes seeing as Link has been gone from Hyrule for seven years and in that time many things have changed. He has yet to leave the Temple of Time to see what lies behind its walls and Sheik is basically warning him that things aren’t the same as he last saw them.

In a way you could say that I see this as a rendition of the iconic scene from the original Legend of Zelda where the Old Man gives Link the wooden sword and tells him that it’s dangerous to go alone. That’s how I see this scene being presented. It’s like that scene in that it is a dangerous world out there and that they (the Old Man and Sheik) are giving Link the tools or the knowledge to stand against it.
