_36_the_legend_of_zelda___link_by_rotegruetze-d6glyomWelcome to another edition of the Fanart Spotlight! Today we are going to take a look at a wonderful pocket-sized piece of art from DeviantART member RoteGruetze titled ACEO The Legend of Zelda- Link. It features young and adult Link from Ocarina of Time, along with the Master Sword set symbolically between the two. The artist does a great job of showing the contrast between the young, naive looking Link and his older self who is much more visibly worn by the burden of saving Hyrule.

This traditional art piece is done with watercolor. Leaving areas of the paper untouched while saturating other with color is a way to create dramatic white lighting which is well illustrated in this piece. The background is a simple black wash, which effectively adds some drama to the otherwise colorful art.

For those who might be wondering what ACEO means, it stands for Art card editions and originals. They are done on baseball card-sized pieces of paper, so they are very small pieces of work. Artists may sell them or more commonly trade their own work for other artists’. It’s a great way to start an original art collection for those on a budget, especially if you happen to be artistically talented as well and can offer up trades. And the size and nature of the work makes protecting them as easy as picking up a few card protectors and a card album. The detail that artists can pack into such a small space is pretty remarkable, and as cool as ACEOs look on screen, holding a piece of original art in them palm of your hand is what makes this trading card sized format unique and personal.
