Zelda Fan For Life?

Zelda, like so many other series before it, has attracted its own unique brand of fans. Over the years they have created many fan communities, discussed in forums, theorized the mysteries of the timeline, and debated their favorite title. Obviously for some it is not just another fantasy game but a series they have an invested interest in. They can genuinely love the story, the characters, and the world the games take place in. Over time one can grow fond of the series for more than just a game, some people can play Zelda’s Lullaby on an ocarina or even another instrument they own. Others own merchandise or wear shirts showing their love for the series away from home. Some have gone so far as to immortalize their love of the series as tattoos. But is it only a phase?

Many of the fans began the series when they were young. For many they have been playing long enough that they can safely say it is not just a phase. But one has to wonder, for how long? Would you still be a fan even if you have long since lost interest in gaming? Would there ever be a time in which you will give up Zelda? Will you still keep your games in the years to come? Will you still be a fan and occasionally pick up and play when you have kids of your own? Would there ever be a time when you think you should put the controller down and put Zelda behind you?

Then it begs to question just why someone would remain so loyal to the series and remember it so fondly. What would keep you into the series? Is it replay value, the universe, or nostalgia for a simpler time when you first played the game?

As for myself I believe I will remain a Zelda fan for many years to come. I have been a fan since the early days before Ocarina of Time, have loved the story and the world Nintendo has created. I have a few t-shirts myself, and I own my share of merchandise as well. Even if I lose interest in the sequels or if Nintendo decided to retire the title I believe I will remain a fan until the end. Even if future family and friends have moved on to bigger and better things I will always keep a soft spot for the old adventures in Hyrule.
