Theory: What if Fi’s Percentages of Probability Really Factor Into Link’s Quest in Skyward Sword?

You’ve all probably heard this line before, “Never tell me the odds!” which was said by Han Solo from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. It’s a line that a lot of gamers can agree with, whether it comes to picking up rare loot in a JRPG, or just struggling to capture that elusive Hylian Loach in Ocarina of Time. We don’t really listen to those odds, even when somebody in the game we’re playing says otherwise. That’s what Fi in Skyward Sword would do to Link a lot throughout his quest, just give him the odds.
NintendoBlackCrisis was one of the many who wasn’t a fan of Fi’s odds for Link, but it did give him some curiosity as to what would it be like if the odds truly mattered. So what he decided to do is breakdown every time Fi gave Link a percentage. The first thing he discovers is that there are 199 of Fi’s percentage instances total.
He then breaks these down until only the ones that truly matter to the quest are left, which gives him about 16 total. This includes such moments as completing the Skyview Temple, the gate to Lake Floria, the underground Ancient Cistern, entering the Lanayru Sand Sea, inside the Sandship, finding the Sky Keep, and more. According to his total calculations, the chances of Link completing his quest in Skyward Sword, based on Fi’s percentages, is just under 5%.
What do you think of NintendoBlackCrisis’ theory? Do you believe your odds are better than Link’s are? Let us know in the comments below!
