Stop motion animation is an iconic medium and has been providing us with art that no other medium can by combining real-world objects and film techniques into a form of animation, where anything is possible. Using figurines is a great way for the beginner to have access to this art form, and with highly articulated figurines such as Figmas and Nendroids, we are seeing more and more ways for stop motion to be accessible to anyone. YouTube user Animist shows us what is possible with their latest video, showcasing Link locked in battle with desk stationary!

This video showcases the strengths of the medium and is truly a masterful creation. Despite this being a Figma and having limitations that clay would not have, Animist has given this animation weight and depth that would be expected from a studio-level production. We can see little details like Link’s hat bouncing from the force of the impact, and slowing down in his run as he gets ready to absorb the blow from the eraser. Details like this can make or break an animation, and Animist has definitely hit the nail on the head! The animation itself clocks in at a little under 5 seconds long, but feels much longer as it is such a joy to watch.
