UE4 South Clock Town If you thought the 3DS remake of Majora’s Mask was awesome then you should check out this fan version of South Clock Town made in Unreal Engine 4. An environment artist known on YouTube as Wesley Paquette doesn’t leave anything out when it comes to his rendition of the infamous Clock Tower and said monument’s surroundings. In fact, there is even more detail to be explored in Paquette’s Clock Town than in Nintendo’s original and remade versions. Would you like to take a virtual tour? Make the jump to see both the day life and night life of Paquette’s incredible design of South Clock Town!

For those who are unfamiliar with Unreal Engine 4, it is a suite of game development tools used to create, well, anything a game developer could imagine. Like Photoshop or Premiere but specifically for game development. Paquette uses software like Unreal Engine 4 and Photoshop in order to study gaming environments, including one of his favorites from his childhood, Majora’s Mask. It’s amazing how much detail he puts into this rendition, from the graphics to the music and town-like background noise. Even sounds play a part in every environment. I especially love when the tour goes through the town at night and how Paquette makes the environment feel entirely different just by changing the lighting and adding all those eerie sounds. It really captures the dark essence found in the game, giving off that feel of the last day that Termina is left standing.

Such an awesome job! If you’d like, you can check out more of Paquette’s work over on his YouTube channel. What did you guys think? Which version do you think is better, this one, or Nintendo’s original work? If Paquette were to study another Zelda environment, what would you like to see from him next? I’m thinking about Ocarina of Time’s Forest Temple myself. Feel free to share and let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
