With Super Smash Bros. Wii U only a day away from release in North America, and only a little longer than a week in most other areas, reviews have started to come in from far and wide, and the general consensus seems to be that this game is absolutely amazing. With reviews more favorable than nearly any other game this year, and tons of perfect reviews from a variety of gaming publications, it’s likely that Smash will be one of the best games we see in a long time.

Metacritic—a website that counts the aggregate professional review scores of all kinds of video games—has given the game a 94. To put that into perspective, Bayonetta 2, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, and Shovel Knight have all scored a 91, Mario Kart 8 an 88, and Super Mario 3D World got a 93. The only two games that have scored higher than Smash in all of 2014 have been the PS4 version of Grand Theft Auto V and The Last of Us, and the iOS port of VVVVVV; in other words, Super Smash Bros. Wii U is the highest rated game of the year excluding remakes and ports of older games, and the single highest rated game on the Wii U right now.

If you don’t trust Metacritic, both Gaming Age and the Toronto Sun have given the game a perfect score, and publications like Destructoid and Jimquisition have given it a 9.5/10. GameXplain, the website known for being the literal dream come true for gaming journalists, have also given the game a perfect score. I’ve personally been looking for the actual lowest-scoring review of the game, and the worst I can find is an 80 by the Daily Post, which isn’t even that bad, and the review itself has been questioned for being biased.

What do you think? Is it possible to be more excited about this game? Will you be buying it tomorrow, or whenever it comes out in your area?
