SS Overworld Map

With the release of Skyward Sword just around the corner, it’s only natural that everyone is starting to get a little anxious. Heck, I even have a countdown gadget on my desktop set for the game’s release. My point is, day in and day out, we’re all looking forward to Skyward Sword’s long anticipated release. While my Zelda hating roommate sits across the room from me, playing his League of Legends game, I started thinking again. Which one of the new locations revealed in Skyward Sword is sure to be the most anticipated?

Fire Sanctuary

Magmanos

Since E3 this year, we’ve seen Nintendo unveil the different locations one by one. Now we have the full map available to view on the Zelda website.

I’m starting off with my favourite here, Fire Sanctuary. If you haven’t already seen it, it’s located to the North East of the Eldin region. The buildings kind of remind of a Chinese cross Indian architecture. The Fire Sanctuary also houses another one of Skyward Sword’s many dungeons. This dungeon is another fire dungeon, which have always been a favourite of mine.

Why, you might ask? Well, the huge amounts of lava in these places gives a sense of impending doom if you misplace your footing on a ledge. Also this dungeon is home to some of the coolest looking enemies I’ve seen so far in this game. One of these being the Lizalfos. They have always been a favourite of mine, and now with their defenses it seems they might be that little bit more challenging. I’m almost positive that there are some Lizalfos that show up earlier in the game, but the ones in this dungeon are “Dark Lizalfos” and it can only be assumed that they are much stronger.

There’s also the return of the lava cooling mechanic in this game. I really can’t remember how many other games it has been in, but I predominantly remember it from Wind Waker’s Dargon Roost dungeon. Also, another new enemy I’m looking forward to are the Magmanos. This is the name of the monster that kind of looks like a giant hand made of liquid magma. Apparently it can’t normally be damaged by physical attacks, so I’m still pretty curious about how they will be beaten.

SS technoblin

Tentalus

Next up would probably have to be the Lanayru Desert region. It all looks pretty plain until that time stock is given a good old wack by Link. After that we see a lot more life envelope the area as technology comes back to life. I think the main mystery around this place is probably the massive Triforce statue ominously overshadowing the land. I must say that I’m pretty keen to see what that’s all about. Also some of the fights we’ve seen in the trailers make me really want to explore this area for myself. Some of the fights you’ve probably seen involve the Technoblins.

Like the original Bokoblins, they will block at certain angles. However with these guys’ electric weapons, if you make a mistake and hit the wrong spot, you’ll be sent flying back from an electric shock. There’s the battle with the Pirate “Scervo”. You have probably seen him in one of the new trailers recently released. He’s got a sword, a hook, and according to Nintendo, he’s quite the formidable foe. There’s just one more enemy that I feel I should mention for the Lanayru region, and that’s Tentalus.

This very large sea creature has one eye and many, many tentacles. By the looks of the trailer, you appear to fight him on a boat in the middle of a storm. I personally think that this big bad sea monster looks like something from the children’s movie “Monster.inc”, but that’s just my opinion.

Skyloft

My last favourite area from Skyward Sword would probably have to be Link’s home. Yes, the floating town of Skyloft is blessed by the goddess and is home to many interesting people and shops in the game. This town is supposed to be very large and have more interactivity than clock town from Majora’s Mask. Whether or not this statement is true will just have to wait until the release date.

Putting sheer size aside, the shops in Skyloft house the upgrade mechanic. In these shops, you can upgrade potions, weapons and shields to give Link that extra edge in combat. There’s also now a storage space/bank that you will be able to store numerous items in. Aside from shops, I’ve seen the pumpkin shooting mini game take place here, along with so many people its mind boggling.

So there you have it, my three most anticipated places in Skyward Sword so far. I won’t be able to fully clarify until I hold the sweet collection of plastic, paper and cd in my hands on the 24th <.

< So anyway, let me know what area is your favourite in Skyward Sword. It could be anything from the Bamboo Island floating in the sky or even the sneaky silent realm.
