Our affiliate websites at Zelda Universe and Zelda Informer are at E3 and got their chance to play through the three different demo versions of Skyward Sword. There were demos for a brand new flight mode, a dungeon setting, and a boss battle.

Alex Plant of Zelda Informer wrote an extensive Impressions article discussing everything from the flight mechanics, some storyline information, the motion controls, and the boss battle. You can see a bullet point summary after the jump, along with a video of the Zelda Universe and Zelda Informer folks talking about the upcoming Zelda game.

  • Link rides a giant bird as he travels amongst the clouds in Sky Loft.
  • The flight mechanics are very similar to the brief flight segments in Twilight Princess.
  • The playable dungeon in the game was the Sky Temple.
  • Motion Controls require a short learning curve, but they are spot on.
  • Three different types of shields were available; Wooden, Iron, and the Hylian Shield.
  • Shields have meters and will break after being used for a certain amount of time.
  • Sword Beam, Spin Attacks (horizontal and vertical),and the Finishing Blow are all present in the game.
  • The Bow and Arrows works just like it did in Wii Sports Resort.
  • The Beetle can be used to scout various areas, cut-down deku-babas, or cut ropes to solve puzzles.
  • The Beetle can be upgraded to have a mandible to pick up items.
  • The Beetle can later be upgraded so that it moves quicker. Perhaps replacing the boomerang.
  • The pale characters name is the Demon Lord: Ghirahim.
  • Ghirahim is going after Zelda because of her Holy Power.
  • Motion-Plus controls are not emphasized too much in the Ghirahim battle.
  • The impressionist graphic style does its job and does it well.
