Rumor: Majora’s Mask 3D to be Announced on the 21st

Zelda Informer recently published a rumor on their site regarding the oft-hoped for 3DS remake of Majora’s Mask. They claim that Nintendo of America allegedly tweeted that a very familiar game will be announced for the Nintendo 3DS on the infamous 21st of December. We all know that this date marks the end of the Mayan calendar and that delusional doomsday theorists predict the world will somehow face a terrible fate.

Zelda Informer (referring to themselves as “Rumor Informer” due to their being known for posting exactly these sorts of sourceless rumors) reports that this tweet was published by Nintendo of America on their Twitter feed and then supposedly deleted, and no one knows where the screenshot originates from – not even them, which is peculiar since they seem to be the only site “tipped off” about this peculiarly vanishing Tweet. After all, why would Nintendo of America delete its own Tweet if they truly wanted to get the word out?

It certainly would be a brilliant marketing ploy on Nintendo’s part to announce Majora’s Mask for the 3DS on the 21st – especially after all the support Operation Moonfall has received and the fact that the 21st and the game share a common theme: the apocalyptic day of reckoning.

Alas, there are too many reasons pointing to why this is surely a hoax. First of all, the supposed screenshot of the Tweet would be extremely easy for nearly anyone to hoax in a matter of minutes. And if Nintendo really wanted to get the word out, why would they post and then delete their only piece of marketing? Why does the only site who claims to have gotten information about this not even know where it originated? And it doesn’t help that they are notorious for presenting sourceless rumors such as these.

So while we’d love to tell you that your Christmas or Hanukkah wishes have been granted, all we can say is to try to not get your hopes up to high on this one.
