For the last couple of months now, we’ve been hearing murmurs in regards to two key items when it comes to the Nintendo Switch system: what comes next and a potential price drop. We now have an update from the head of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa, in regards to both of these rumors.

In a recent interview with The Sankei News, Furukawa of course talked about the Switch’s success, the company’s future on smartphones, and its sales throughout 2018. During the discussion, the question got brought up about Nintendo’s goal to reach 20 million units sold within the fiscal year, and this is what Furukawa had to say:

TSN: Could you tell us how your goal is going for the Switch to sell 20 million units within the [fiscal] year?

Furukawa: It is an extremely ambitious, but worthwhile achievement. So, we will maintain this goal. Nintendo Switch is our primary sales objective, and we are not considering a successor or a price cut at this time.

While this means that we won’t be getting a Switch 2 anytime soon, that doesn’t mean the rumored Switch with the slightly upgraded hardware isn’t still being worked on. It’s also disappointing to hear that there doesn’t seem to a price drop coming. I think that a lot more gamers would be jumping onto the Switch sooner, rather than later with such a price reduction.

What do you folks think of this news? Is it too early to be thinking about a Switch price drop? Or even a full-on next-gen Nintendo system? Let us know in the comments below!
