This week, Nintendo of America has announced two huge online tournaments for the North America region: the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate North America Open 2019, and the Splatoon 2 North America Inkling Open 2019. The finalists of both tournaments will win a trip to Boston to compete in the grand finals at PAX East.

The Smash Ultimate tournament splits the region into four — Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, and Southwest — and holds three qualifier events in each (to see which region you’re part of, check out this map). From here, the victorious players will proceed to a region final, from which three players from each region can advance to the Grand Final, held at PAX East on March 30th. The dates for each Qualifier, and its respective regional finals can be seen below.

  • Qualifier 1 – February 2nd (Final – February 9th)
  • Qualifier 2 – February 16th (Final – March 3rd)
  • Qualifier 3 – March 9th (Final – March 16th)

The Splatoon 2 North America Inkling Open 2019 is open to teams of four from anywhere across the US, Canada, and Mexico. Teams can take part in the online Preliminary “Ink Pools” (February 10th) and Online Finals (March 2nd). The top four teams from this stage will be taken to PAX East, where they’ll compete in the Grand Finals. To find out more, check out the tournament’s Battlefy page. This tournament comes after Nintendo of Europe announced a European Community Cup, a series of tournaments open to European players and teams.

Will you be taking part in either of these tournaments? Perhaps you’re looking for teammates to splat (or smash) with? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
