Nintendo shined a spotlight on its new online service during today’s Direct live stream, detailing a handful of features coming to Nintendo Switch Online. While most of the information we knew beforehand, such as the availability of enhanced NES titles like The Legend of Zelda, Nintendo did have one prominent surprise of its sleeve. A pair of NES-style controllers will be made available for Switch in December 2018, compatible with the classic NES games included with Nintendo Switch Online.

Authenticity seems to be the name of the game with these new controllers, as they will feature the general shape, appearance, and face buttons of the original NES gamepad, with a pair of shoulder buttons thrown in as well. Aside from the retro design, the controllers will be wireless and will feature rechargeable batteries. Players will be able to charge them by attaching them directly to a docked Switch console.

A set of two NES-style Switch controllers will cost $59.99. These retro controllers will be exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online members, with the offer limited to one set per paid membership of the service (individual or family membership).

The NES controllers for Nintendo Switch will released in mid-December, with pre-orders available on September 18.

Will you be nabbing a pair of these controllers with your Nintendo Switch Online membership? Let us know in the comments.
