Screen Shot 2015-04-23 at 6.57.09 AMWith Nintendo’s desire to keep certain titles alive long after release, it seems that we have been seeing quite a bit of downloadable content lately. In the past six months we have had numerous amounts of DLC released for several key titles like Super Smash Bros., Hyrule Warriors, and Mario Kart 8. With some of the content being offered as bonuses or rewards from pre-orders as well as Club Nintendo, even those that haven’t wanted to pay for more content have been able to benefit. In his recent column with Famitsu, Masahiro Sakurai shares his thoughts on DLC.

Hit jump to see what he had to say.

The Famitsu column focuses on Super Smash Bros. DLC and how Sakurai feels it is more “genuine” than in the beginning, as well as saying that the content is really more focused on the fans.

Here is one of the things Sakurai had to say:

It’s a huge undertaking to create a fighter, so I think we can’t make them in large quantities. I’d also like to feel refreshed when the project is over. However, since we have decided to tackle [DLC] once, I’d like to offer as much fun [content] as possible. It will take a while from now, but please look forward to it.

The Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot is up and running until 10/3/15 and Nintendo has recently announced more fighters and Mii Fighter outfits will be released for Super Smash Bros, as well as today Mario Kart 8 received its biggest amount of DLC yet. What else could be on the horizon? For myself, I would like to see a The Legend of Zelda track for Mario Kart 8, with the track shifting through various worlds that span the franchise’s history and a Wolf Link and Midna fighter for Super Smash Bros. (possibly asking for too much). What would you guys like to see released next? Share your thought in the comments below!
