When Link wakes up on the mysterious Koholint Island in Link’s Awakening, he finds himself in a quaint little town that, for all intents and purposes, shouldn’t exist. Also known as the “Village of Seagulls”, Mabe Village is known for its fun games, a Chain Chomp named BowWow, and of course, its wonderful score. While it’s the start of Link’s adventure on this island, it’s the music that makes you feel like you’ve truly arrived.

Nothing solidifies that feeling of being welcomed more than The 8-Bit Big Band’s jazz ballad cover of “Mabe Village” from Link’s Awakening. While the original score gives off more of a lullaby vibe, the version provided to us by this orchestral group brings a more chillax groove to the music. Just listening to the band’s re-work makes it feel like Link’s dancing through the village like that of actor Gene Kelly in the 1952 film Singin’ in the Rain.

When it comes to more Zelda-goodness, The 8-Bit Big Band has also tackled music from Ocarina of Time, like “Saria’s Song“, “Song of Storms“, “Gerudo Valley“, and more.  All manner of game series have been covered by The 8-Bit Big Band too, such as Final Fantasy, Super Mario, Kirby, and much more. Whatever Zelda adventure you start next, make sure you’re cruising along with some quality music.
