Lo-fi music, when done right, can strike an amazing balance between ambient and attention-grabbing. Several lo-fi producers and YouTube radio stations have become my go-to music sources to spend my day to. A good lo-fi beat can invoke such a special kind of relaxing yet productive mood. The genre can catch with hip hop, electronic, and pop fans alike.

I currently have one collection on repeat.

Producer FRNCHY (AKA Tony Vitti), based out of New York City, recently released an EP of fresh lo-fi music that was inspired by the worlds and vibe of the Legend of Zelda series. It’s titled cookin, and is available to stream on FRNCHY’s YouTube channel and download at his Bandcamp page.

Reached for comment on his process and the release of cookin, Mr. Vitti offered this insight:

Since each Zelda game has its own touch and signature, I try to make tracks that use the same type of instruments or ambiances. For example [with Breath of the Wild], I need to have a more calming ambiance and minimalistic piano than a production I would do for Wind Waker, where winds and wooden instruments would be used. But I rarely remix songs.

I’m a simple man. I see lo-fi and Zelda; I click. And the cookin EP has been a great find! We often cover remixes, covers, and sample-based projects, so it is really cool to hear from a musician who has used our favorite series as a concept for an original collection.

As a special offer to Zelda Dungeon readers, FRNCHY has provided Bandcamp download codes below to take cookin offline with you! You can redeem them at FRNCHY’s Bandcamp page here. If these are used before you read this, hit up the Zelda Dungeon Discord.
