Link’s family is one of the most interesting aspects of the character. Overall, the depiction of Link and his relatives varies greatly from game to game. While some games barely mention Link’s family, The Wind Waker prominently features Link’s family in the form of his grandmother and adorable sister Aryll. Early in the game, Aryll is kidnapped by the Helmaroc King, which is the inciting incident that sets Link on his grand journey.

Aryll has one of the most peaceful and relaxing themes in The Wind Waker. This classical guitar arrangement of “Aryll’s Theme” by John Oeth does a great job of capturing the spirit of the original tune. The arrangement is simple but effective, showcasing the sweet, smooth sounds that the acoustic guitar can create. Additionally, I really enjoy the serene background that is presented in the video. There seems to be either a river or lake behind the guitarist. This is absolutely perfect because gently flowing water can be very soothing. Going even further, The Wind Waker is built around water, so the backdrop feels extremely fitting.

I hope that Aryll can return in a future Zelda game; I would love to see a similar acoustic guitar arrangement featured as a key part of her in-game theme. Perhaps a new sequel to The Wind Waker could focus on Aryll’s adventures while Link is away in Phantom Hourglass. With Nintendo, there is always an ocean of possibilities.
