The topic of Zelda spinoff titles has been a popular one with the recent release of Cadence of Hyrule. Brace Yourself Games’ rhythm roguelike has opened the doors for other studios to get their hands on one of Nintendo’s prize IP’s, but we also shouldn’t forget the Zelda spinoffs that have come before. One such series that is generally brushed over by fans is the Tingle family of games, a trilogy of spinoffs that starred The Legend of Zelda‘s favorite fairy-man Tingle.

These titles never actually made their way to the United States, so they are often forgotten in the grand scheme of history. Luckily, the fine folks at DidYouKnowGaming? examined two of the Tingle games a few months ago as part of their Region Locked series. The team offers some facts, trivia, and history on the Nintendo DS region-exclusives Freshly-Picked Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland and Ripened Tingle’s Balloon Trip of Love.

As someone that never got the chance to play either of these Tingle titles, I found myself plenty informed after watching this video. I was most interested in hearing about the circumstances behind the games’ releases and localization, especially the first game. Personally, I think that if these games had been made today, they would have had a way better shot with fans stateside.

If you want to hear more about Freshly-Picked Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland, you can read about Zelda Dungeon editor-in-chief Andy Spiteri’s odyssey through the game right here.
