zeldo1 Since Flappy Bird began dominating the App Store charts well over a year ago, countless generic knock-offs resembling various video game franchises have attempted to replace it. Alas, The Legend of Zelda is no exception. Obviously, the creators of this particular ripoff were not ashamed to model their app after Link’s Awakening, hence the clever title The Legend of Zeldo: Lonk’s Awakening DX. Surprisingly, the game is filled with a humorous array of Zelda references, Lonk even tumbles in mid-air as opposed to fluttering!

Developed by Virtually Competent, LLC, their description reads:

Prince Zeldo’s been kidnapped…again. Looks like a job for Lonk, the legendary Hero of Thyme! Grab your sword and…oh, you forgot it at home? Uh, that’s fine. Probably.

-Flap your way through the evil Lord Ganondoof’s castle! Save the prince!
-Collect ruples because why not? Feed your greed!
-Steal items from an old man! Wait, how do these things even work?
-Does this castle have no end? (Spoilers: it does)

Lonk’s Awakening is a Legend of Zelda themed take on Flappy Bird, originally created during “Flappy Jam”, which was hosted on itch.io in early 2014.

DISCLAIMER: While Lonk’s Awakening is heavily inspired by The Legend of Zelda series, no assets in the game were directly ripped from any official title produced by Nintendo. This game was built from scratch with entirely original art and audio. Neither Virtually Competent nor Lonk’s Awakening are affiliated with Nintendo.

I couldn’t resist downloading, and I have to admit, it’s pretty addicting. It has just about every generic Zelda item you can think of, from “Whim Wakers” to normal “Irony Boots.” And yes, it only gets better. You can find this delightful freebie on the App Store under the name Lonk’s Awakening.

Have you already gone ahead and downloaded it? If not, what are you waiting for? Tell us what you think of The Legend of Zeldo: Lonk’s Awakening DX in the comments below!
