IGN’s take on Skyward Swords New Controls

IGN is at it again with another featured article about Skyward Sword, this time discussing the game’s new controls. Like the previous articles and impressions they posted much of what they had to say was positive. The article also states there will be no waggling through Skyward Sword and that the new combat mechanics are instead very intuitive and work well. Besides all the same positive input we’ve heard before, IGN states a few new interesting tidbits  including some negative input about the game.

What the article has to say about the complete lack of the IR pointing sensor is actually something to think about. Everything in the game is controlled by the motion plus, whether it’s aiming to shoot arrows or just navigating menus, something you’d think would be easier by just pointing at the screen perhaps.

Be sure to take the jump to hear more of IGN’s thoughts on the game.

IGN says some of the controls work very well such as controlling your bird’s flight which feels very natural, but some are less ideal and difficult such as tightrope walking. Another thing they state that comes across as a bit tedious, is that they had to recalibrate the Wii remote numerous times. This concerns me on how it will affect the flow of the game. Don’t feel to discouraged  about these slight problems though because overall the point they try to get across is the game needs some getting used to for a bit, and once the controls are mastered you’ll never want to go back .

“In many respects, I never want to play a game from this franchise with any other method of input. After some practice, I’d be surprised if you didn’t agree.”
