Our favorite Zelda fan over at IGN, Audrey Drake, recently posted an article comparing Skyward Sword to Minish Cap. Item similarities like the Mole Mitts/Mogma Mitts and the Gust Jar/Gust Bellow are pretty obvious if you’ve played Minish Cap and are keeping up with the news of Skyward Sword. There’s also the visual similarities of Vaati and Ghirahim. Jump inside for more similarities.

I remember when we got our first glimpse of Ghirahim, in the trailer this past February, many people thought he might actually be Vaati. Audrey also mentions how both games have dungeon like overworlds with puzzles and side missions expanding beyond what had done before. Each game also has an area above the clouds with people living there. Finally, that both games have shaken the difficult to pin down timeline for the Zelda series. Namely how the producers of Minish Cap mentioned at the time that it was chronologically the first game in the series (which has since been debated) and now Skyward Sword has taken that place in the timeline.

Audrey makes some great correlations something I think she forgot to mention was that Hidemaro Fujibayashi, the director of Skyward Sword, was also the director on Minish Cap. Because of this we can surmise that many of these similarities could be intentional. Another interesting correlation that was not revealed yet when Audrey wrote her article came in the new Origin Trailer where we see Link altering his sword with the power of fire. One of the goals in Minish Cap was to forge the Picori Blade into the Four Sword and it has been mentioned that in Skyward Sword we will see the Goddess Sword become the Master Sword.

What other similarities would you like to see? Do you expect to find references to the Picori/Minish in Skyward Sword? What other items from Minish Cap would you like to have again but in a 3D environment? Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
