A few years ago, Nintendo released the recipe for Yeto’s Pumpkin Soup from Twilight Princess in celebration of the re-release of the game on the Wii U. If you don’t remember Yeto, he’s a character who lives with his wife on top of Snowpeak Ruins. In the game, Yeto asks Link to fetch ingredients to make his pumpkin soup for his sick wife.

Yeto’s ingredients are Reekfish heads, Ordon Pumpkin, and Ordon goat cheese. Nintendo’s recipe leaves out the Reekfish heads, thankfully, but the soup is full of other delicious goodies! All of the ingredients listed are easy to find and the recipe is fairly straightforward!

This recipe makes A LOT so be prepared for some leftovers. After having made this myself I would add more brown sugar to taste. We also ran out of goat cheese in order to garnish the top of the soup, so we garnished it with a little bit of heavy cream and it was perfect! Instead of using canned pumpkin (and there’s nothing wrong with using canned pumpkin) we chose to roast our pumpkins instead. We bought 3 small pie pumpkins, cut them in half, took out all the guts, rubbed them down in olive oil, and roasted them until fork soft in a 400 degree oven. Time will vary for the doneness of your pumpkins, so keep a close eye if you choose to go this route! The meat of the pumpkin should scoop right out once they are cooked and you’ll be ready to use them in the rest of the recipe.

Cooking the soup is simple. When my husband and I cooked it, we chose to use our immersion blender instead of a food processor to break up the soup. It was less messy that way. Be sure to season to taste; a big batch of soup like this can be easy to leave under seasoned, and a hearty soup like this needs to be seasoned well. I mentioned earlier about adding some more brown sugar to the mix and I definitely recommend it! Below are a few pictures of our process and the final product! It was a delicious videogame meal that was perfect for fall and the coming cooler months!
