How Link Obtains The Goddess Sword

There are countless events we look forward to when it comes to playing the games of Legend of Zelda; the first Temple, the introduction of Zelda, and the legendary green tunic. However, one event that really marks the start of your adventure throughout Hyrule, is the receiving of your sword. Within each game and each different storyline, this event is unique. From being given a sword by a kindly old man in a cave, to pulling a sword from a pedestal and accidentally releasing a certain evil Wind Mage. Perchance you may prefer stealing one as a beast, or finding one in a chest after dodging a continuously rolling boulder. Regardless, we can all recall that feeling of anticipation we get when we first receive our sword, testing its slashes on random objects around us. Once you get your trusted blade, you know you are about to embark on a journey of combating evil, or Ghirahim perhaps.

Recently, it’s been discovered just when Link gets his first blade in Skyward Sword, the blade is destined to eventually become the Master Sword itself. Taken from the Goddess Statue, it’s unsurprisingly called the Goddess Sword, your trusty weapon of the game.

Zelda being blown away by the massive tornado is what triggers the need to have a blade in the first place. After the event, Link is guided by the spirit Fi, pretty much the Navi of the game, to the Goddess Statue. There inside the statue, he finds a pedestal with the Goddess Sword, and takes this blade to begin his quest to rescue his dear friend, Zelda.

One thing to note is the very exciting use of Wii Motion Plus once Link goes to take the sword. In order to pull it from the pedestal, you must point your remote downward, pull as if you yourself are pulling the sword, before pointing it upward in what I imagine is victory.

Honestly, what Zelda geek DOESN’T feel tremors of pure excitement at this? Just when you thought you might’ve reached your peak of impatience for the release of Skyward Sword, more wonderful updates have you feeling more torture. In the end though, we all know it’ll be worth it. So look forward to picking up your blade, almost literally, and beginning your quest with Link as your vessel!

Which leaves me with this. In all the Zelda games you’ve played, what was your favorite way of acquiring the sword? In my personal opinion, what immediately comes to mind is Twilight Princess. It had a new twist to the event, being you had to dig your way into a house as a beast and get it for a certain imp, not yourself. This caught my eye, and I can’t help but favor it more then the others! What is your answer? Don’t be afraid to speak up below!
