The music from the Zelda series has always exhibited a sense of elegance, even since its early days. Composer Koji Kondo’s compositions have their roots planted firmly in sweeping orchestral melodies that inspire tales of heroism and courage, and in my humble opinion, no track evokes those feelings more than the original theme that started it all.

Enter the Videri String Quartet, a group of incredibly talented individuals that specialize in string instrument arrangements of beloved video game music. Their appreciation of The Legend of Zelda is on full display here as they demonstrate some amazing skill on the violin, viola, and cello. The musicians use their command of string instruments to elevate the Main Theme with an arrangement that also integrates snippets from Link’s Awakening.

I’m a huge fan of what they’ve done here, especially given the fact that it was recorded remotely given social distancing guidelines — a fact that has absolutely no adverse effect on its quality.  This piece a testament to just how good these folks are at their craft!

So what did you think of this “Main Theme” cover? Did they nail the most recognizable Zelda track in the franchise? Let us know in the comments below!
