Greetings and salutations, Zelda fans! Today I have a video for you all from Cleanprincegaming explaining why the latest addition to the Zelda franchise is not the Messiah of the gaming industry, despite the near-universal acclaim it’s experienced since release. This video in particular explains how Breath of the Wild is not as revolutionary as people think.
The video is very well constructed, and it goes in-depth into why Breath of the Wild was only revolutionary to its own franchise and why it won’t change the “money grab” mindset of the modern gaming industry. Cleanprincegaming breaks down the current mindset of the gaming industry into one sentence: “We need money, not time.”
He believes that any fan of the Zelda series who has played Breath of the Wild knows how innovative the game was to the franchise. Some of these innovations include a map that is a “true” open world, the breakable weapon mechanic, and a large variety of side quests that benefit the player’s experience.
To make a game of this magnitude, it took Nintendo four years of slow, careful development. Cleanprincegaming states that they wanted the player to experience the full game from the start with little to no limitations. With the way that a lot of AAA games, such as Call of Duty or Assassin’s Creed, copy and paste the same mechanics into a new game every year, the overall experience of these games seems lackluster and overly tedious in comparison. He says that, regardless of the differences between Breath of the Wild and other high-profile games, the companies who create these games still rake in millions of dollars a year for such poorly developed games.
