GameTrailers – Just Really How Annoying is Navi?

GameTrailers posted their top ten most annoying video game characters a few days ago, and one of our favorite fairies is in the top 5! Find out why they hate her and who joined her on the list after the jump!
When GameTrailers put out their list of the top ten most annoying video game characters, it’s no surprise that Nintendo dominated the list. It’s probably also no surprise to anybody familiar with Ocarina of Time that Navi found it’s way to the top 5.
But why do the folks at GameTrailers think Navi is one of the most annoying video game characters ever? Even for all the good things Navi does for us throughout the game, does she still deserve to be labeled annoying? Unfortunately, yes, yes she does.
“It’s her impish yelps that irk. A tedious metronome of keeping the beat with endless ‘Heys!’ Playing card size limitations but if Navi could’ve uttered a few more phrases or simply stayed her tongue, she would’ve been a much better companion than the repetitive chatterbox that she ended up being.”
I have to agree. While I like the concept of the lone hero having a companion to help him through his journey and the idea of Navi is interesting, I couldn’t help but want her to shut up as I played through the 3DS version of Ocarina of Time a few weeks back. It became especially brutal because they gave her the power to remind me I’d been playing for roughly an hour and should take a break.
