Few things in this world get under the skin of Zelda fans more than when the “ignorant masses” refer to the series’ green-clad, pointy eared protagonist as Zelda. We’ve all heard it before: “Oh yeah, I know Zelda, he’s that video-game-dude all dressed in green.

Well, for the first time ever, there is a scenario where that statement might actually hold some merit. Inspired by the recent hack of Donkey Kong that allowed Pauline to be the playable character, Kenna W decided to hack the original Legend of Zelda so that Princess Zelda is the hero and Link is the one imprisoned.

Here’s a bit from Kenna on the motivation behind the hack:

“For me, I played my first Zelda game when I was pretty young, and at

the time, I thought the game did star Princess Zelda. I

figured I’d get to play as a magical battle princess that saved her

kingdom. The game was fun, but I was bummed out that I never got to play

as Zelda.”

For the full details on how the patch was executed head on over to Kenna’s blog, and as promised, here is the video of Princess Zelda kicking some ass and taking some names.
