PegasusLate last year, Eiji Aonuma hinted at the possibility that a flying mechanic might be in store for the next Legend of Zelda title. The Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass featured a boat, while Spirit Tracks took the next technological step forward by introducing a train. The ability to fly has been tossed around and speculated by fans alike. Many Zelda fans welcome the idea, while others frown at technological advancements and modernization.

When it comes to flying, I really welcome the idea, but the idea of the technological advancement scares me. Instead of using a hot-air balloon or a primitive type of airplane, why not go the route of magic. Link has had a trusty horse in Epona that has allowed him to cross the plains rather quickly, but why not take it a step further and give Epona wings and the ability to fly? The picture you see to the left is of Pegasus, a Greek mythological stallion that had wings and the ability to fly. Would including such a concept in the Legend of Zelda series be too radical? Heck, they’ve already used the term Pegasus when naming the Pegasus Boots back in A Link to the Past, which gave Link the ability to dash quickly across the land. I think if Nintendo does choose the route of flight, this method is far superior then any technological advancement.

A thread about Link being able to fly has been made over at our Zelda Wii forum. Feel free to head on over to our forum community and register to take part in the discussion. Let us know what you think about the possibility of giving Epona the ability to fly.
