n0KW2m4Ocarina of Time is one of the most well known titles in the series. Ports of the game have been made available for several different Nintendo platforms, including an official remake for the Nintendo 3DS. In the past, modders have created a countless number of texture packs, made the single player game multiplayer, has been recreated in Minecraft by our good friends at GenGAME, and an attempt was made to recreate the entire game in a 2D A Link to the Past style game.

Now a small group of modders on the Maco64 forum are attempting to recreate the Nintendo 64 classic with a brand new engine.Go ahead and make the jump inside for some pictures, a video, and how you can help.

So basically this is the project. Ocarina of Time in HD. The graphic style will be realistic (think Twilight Princess). Music will be Zelda Reorchestrated, unless someone can make better Ocarina of Time-true background music. I may allow for customization here, using a folder with MP3s so players can use other music if they’d like. The engine will retain everything originally in Ocarina of Time, and add to it. I plan to have a status subscreen menu that allows these options to be toggled realtime. Planned features include:

Oculus Rift Support
3 Camera Views
1st Person like the Elder Scrolls series
3rd Person free orbit like Twilight Princess
3rd Person Classic like originally present in Ocarina of Time
Support for added content (like the medallion arrow thing planned for Zelda 64DD)
Joypad Support (any joypad)

This will first be released on PC (Windows OS). If I am able, I will port it to other consoles including Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, and Apple Computers.

Once this game has been released,Ii plan on moving other Zelda games into it as well. The only thing that I will retain is that the graphic style be the same. When I release The Wind Waker HD, IT WILL NOT BE CELL SHADED OR DISPROPORTIONATE. I will even release a Zelda Sacred Armor (Izou) HD counterpart after it is released by Flotonic.

Here is the shield. I have more done, but no photos yet. I’m setting up the scripts and such right now so there won’t be many “pretty” updates for a while.

The project was started by Maco64 forum member sylux102. Put simply, it is an attempt to bring the world in Ocarina of Time to HD using the Unity engine. The project is still in what you would call alpha stage and it will probably be a while before it is near completion. With the help of some coders and modders in the Zelda community, maybe things could be sped up.

Ocarina of Time 3D was a great refreshment for fans who played the original when it was released. Although the 3D treatment was perfect for some fans to play on the go, some wished it would have been remade in HD for the Wii U. For those fans, this will probably be the closest they will get to that wish, unless Nintendo starts creating games just for the fan service.
