Dr. Link: Diagnosis of Characters #3

drlinkThe last couple of patients have had a a lot in common as far as a diagnosis goes, one that obsesses over the past, and one who obsesses over bugs. Both have been diagnosed with OCD in some form. This week however, the patient is insane. He is crazy beyond belief and suffers from multiple disorders. Hit the jump to see the next patient and how his disorders have been deciphered.

Welcome to the office of Dr. Link, the digital doctor of mental and psychological disorders for characters in the Zelda series. Today we have our third patient, Tingle, Who is beyond the help of treatment or hope. Tingle is the 35-year-old “fairy” who helps Link through his journeys, but all at a price. The price of money and the price of his family. He is a grown man who believes he is a fairy and lives in a tower, deciphering maps, and bossing around his brothers. He has some obvious problems, and some not so obvious ones as well. Lets look at the write-up.

tinglePatient Name: Tingle
Residence: Balloon in the Sky (Majora’s Mask, Oracle of Ages, Four Swords Adventures, Minish Cap), Tingle Tower (The Wind Waker)
Symptoms: When first encountered, he mentions your green tunic and and asks if you are a fairy. He then takes the next minute or so to explain that he is a fairy. He is clearly a human, but fully believes and bases his life on the “fact” that he is a fairy. And he is so convinced that even his brothers, Knuckle and Ankle, and a follower, David Jr., also believe they are fairies.

In The Wind Waker, he spends his time in the Tingle Tower. But what he does up there is just boss his brothers around. He always is just standing there while all of his brothers work, and when he talks he only refers to himself and no one else, and takes the praise for a lot of things that all the Tingle Brothers take part in. Along with acting like he is the boss of his brothers, he feels no regret. He feels no regret for the way he acts, no regret the way he presents himself in public, and is just all around a strange person to say the least.

He is very smart, especially when it comes to how to gain money. In The Wind Waker he makes you pay a hefty amount to decipher maps, and in Four Swords Adventures he is trying to constantly take money from you. He is rich and has his own games where he is always after money, games such as Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland.

Diagnosis:

  • Narcissistic Personality Disorder: excessively preoccupied with personal adequacy, power, prestige and vanity. He controls his brothers and is only focused on himself through all of the games.
  • Sociopath: There are many different symptoms caused by being a sociopath, this list will cover his symptoms:
    1. Sociopaths are charming. From the first moment Tingle is met, many players fall in love with him and he is highly memorable because of the compliments he does give Link.
    2. Sociopaths are incapable of feeling shame, guilt or remorse. He dresses like a freak and says what ever he wants and has no problems doing so. He never says sorry and is just a very forward person.
    3. Sociopaths seek to dominate others and “win” at all costs. He is the “leader” of his brothers, he dominates them and he tells them what to do. Even if his brothers had not wanted to become like him, he had to dominate.
    4. Sociopaths tend to be highly intelligent. They use this in order to give to personal gain. And many sociopaths are scam artists. Tingle is a scam artist. He nickel and dimes every rupee from you in almost all games he is in.
    5. Sociopaths are delusional and literally believe that what they say becomes truth. Tingle believes that he is a fairy, and nothing is going to change that. This is not just a want, Tingle has based his life around the thought that he is truly a fairy.
