Does Zelda Need a Reboot?

This short article from Zelda Informer is a discussion about the Zelda series in general, which yes, at times seems a bit messy. The author points out that this appearance is largely because of story, and that may only pertain to hardcore Zelda fans and theorists. The author also is quick to point out that there is quite a bit of variety in the series already: with transformations, intensive linear story telling, and free range exploration, there’s a lot to choose from. Here’s what the author eventually concludes:
I think that’s quite correct. When we begin comparing games it’s easy to say, “This Zelda game is awful, because this Zelda game does it so much better,” but when we take that approach it is easy to miss that the games are all rather brilliant. There may be other video game series like Castlevania, Sonic, etc. that do require reboots to make once great franchises acceptable again, but the fact is, Nintendo continues to deliver great games. Even with the piles of prequels and sequels, and reinventions like the jump to 3D graphics or the switch to motion controls, we will always be coming back for more.
