We recently received news from GameSpot’s preview of Skyward Sword that an old friend would be returning to aid Link in his quest, the boomerang. Link’s trusty boomerang has made many appearances in the Zelda franchise so when we first heard that it would be making a comeback it wasn’t hard to believe. According to GameSpot, Link receives the Boomerang very early in the game from the chief of the Kikwi’s, Bucha, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. In our previews galore news post yesterday, a number of sources would tell you otherwise and that Link receives the slingshot, not the boomerang at this point in the game.

To read further reasons why we think GameSpot made a mistake be sure to take the jump.

Instead of the Boomerang 1UP has this to say about their time navigating through the Faron Woods and Deep Woods ( a section in the Faron Woods)…

The means to working your way through the woods are found in the woods themselves; the area is a self-contained puzzle. In that sense, it really does play out like a dungeon. You even acquire a new tool, the slingshot, in the course of locating the Deep Woods.

The statement above confirms where you get the slingshot but it doesn’t necessarily disprove that the boomerang is not in the game, but it sure is hard to believe Link would receive two items before the first dungeon.

Here is a statement from G4 that explains how Link receives the Slingshot, which is almost identical to GameSpot’s explanation…

It took some coercing, but I earned his trust and met the Kikwi elder, Bucha. He tasked me with finding his fellow Kikwis, all of which were being bothered by forest monsters. Link and I are a killer team. We aided all of the Kikwis in need in no time. (Actual time: 30 minutes) Bucha was so pleased he rewarded Link with a slingshot, Dun nah nah nah!

In conclusion it seems as though GameSpot just made a simple but very confusing mistake. We are not however confirming the boomerang will not appear in the game. From what the sources are telling us, the screenshots we’ve seen, and the trailers we’ve watched there seems to be no sign of the boomerang at that point in the game.

So what do you guys think? Will the boomerang make an appearance after all? Would you like to see the boomerang? Post your thoughts below!
