As part of a New Year Resolution, I’m looking to complete any Zelda games from quite an extensive back catalogue. One such game is Skyward Sword on the Wii, which was released back in 2011. In this game, we are introduced to a technologically advanced race known as the Ancient Robots, who at first, are nothing more than piles of debris in a dusty landscape. With the help of the Timeshift Stones, Link can manipulate time to bring the Ancient Robots back into existence. This is an essential element of puzzle solving in Lanayru and seeing the desert wasteland transform into a fertile green one is a pretty cool effect!

I liked the colourful character design of the Ancient Robots themselves. They can come across as a little standoffish (even arrogant) to Link, far too engrossed in their work at the mine. The power of a Timeshift Stone will only reach so far, and I found it quite sad that the fate of these robots is literally in plain sight.  Over the course of your adventure in Lanayru, however, you begin to see that they can be helpful if they choose to be. One such robot upgrades your Beetle for example and others explain how the power generator works.

So, this got me to thinking, would you like to see the Ancient Robots return? I couldn’t help but think of how Terrako in Age of Calamity might have been influenced by the Ancient Robots in Skyward Sword. If the Timeshift Stones can be used in a similar fashion in a future Zelda game, I don’t see any reason why these robots could not be found in other places in Hyrule. What do you think?
