Daily Debate: Which Zelda NPC Would You Want to See as a Companion?

Although the Zelda series is populated with dozens of memorable characters, only a select few of them have had the opportunity to hang with Link throughout an entire game. From Navi to Midna, these partners in crime are essential to the Hylian hero’s success. Now, depending on who you talk to, certain companions are either nauseatingly chatty pests, or among the greatest individuals to grace Hyrule’s shores. In any case, the potential exists for some honest-to-goodness character development for anyone who steps into that role.

That being said, I can think of at least a handful of characters I would love to have seen accompany Link throughout the majority of his journey. Even if they failed to provide much insight in terms of navigation, I would’ve just enjoyed their company, you know? For instance, I could totally see Groose’s one-sided rivalry with Link blossoming into a fully-fledged bromance. We started to see the beginnings of that relationship toward the end of Skyward Sword, but it was merely a taste of the gift we could’ve received.
