Daily Debate: Which New Animal Companion Would You Choose For Link?

The land of Hyrule has often had to call upon Link for protection, and our hero has always responded willingly to it’s call. Saving the world must be a tough job, but luckily, Link has often had a companion to help him shoulder the burden.

Some of Link’s partners have come in the forms of fairies and spirits, and others in the form of a talking boat or a hat. Animals have also made an extremely useful appearance, most notably in the form of Link’s trusty steed, Epona. Without Epona, Link’s adventures across Hyrule would take so much longer. And lets not forget Ricky the kangaroo, Dimitri the dodongo, and Moosh the flying bear from Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages — they made travelling a breeze! Even Link’s Crimson Loftwing made for a memorable animal companion in Skyward Sword, enabling him to traverse the skies in order to save Zelda from the surface. In fact, animal companions certainly seem to have made all the difference in Link’s quests!

This brings me to wonder, what if we had the opportunity to choose an animal companion for Link? You could choose a Hylian Retriever to accompany you as you hike over mountains, or a cheeky monkey that will gather nearby rupees and such on Link’s behalf. Perhaps you would like to be able to warg into the mind of a hawk or an eagle, or summon a flock of cuccos to attack your enemies? For me, I would like a Keaton. I think their knowledge would be useful, and they could also be used to creep up on enemies in battle.
