Beware of spoilers for various Zelda titles, in particular Link’s Awakening. Also be aware that there may be spoilers for any Zelda game in the comments.

There exist in The Legend of Zelda franchise a number of big plot twists or plot points, each best experienced blind. With many games that have been out for a long time, there’s plenty of opportunity for newcomers and first-time players of different games to be spoiled. Taking that into account, what might be the worst game or moment to spoil?

I, unfortunately, spoiled myself on quite a few games as I played through the franchise for the first time almost a decade ago, most often through guides, but sometimes browsing Zelda content on the internet – and twice from some games’ official websites (thanks a lot, Nintendo). If I could, I’d go back and un-spoil myself. Alas, I cannot. That said, there are a number of other moments I’m glad to have not been spoiled for, and I could go on and on, but I digress. At first, I honestly wanted to say Link’s Awakening is the worst, and honestly, it may be. I mean, prematurely learning that Koholint Island is but a dream of the Windfish and that the world disappears in the end would be a big letdown, very likely ruining the moment Link – and by extension, the player – find out the truth of the Island and its inhabitants just before the sixth dungeon. At least, it was for me.

There’s another moment, one which takes place in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, and though I’ll not say anything so as to give it away, if you’ve played the game up through Chapter 5, you know what I’m talking about. Though, after further consideration, I feel Link’s Awakening may still take the cake.
