Daily Debate: What Is Your Biggest Zelda Hot Take?
Posted on February 06 2023 by Heather Beard
Recently, where I’m employed I’ve been taking every few Friday’s to ask my team’s “Hot Take.” If you’re not sure what a “Hot Take” is it’s a new way saying for your really strong opinion. (Maybe it’s not so new and my age is showing here, but I digress.) Personally I’ve had a lot of fun doing these with my team, and I thought it would be fun to put a Zelda spin on the question and pose it to all of the readers of Zelda Dungeon. So, what’s your biggest Zelda hot take?
I’m going to throw myself to the wolfos and say that over the years, for me, Ocarina of Time has become overrated. It’s a hot take, and I’ve said what I’ve said. I really enjoy that game and I absolutely love the game’s story! Though, I often feel like Ocarina of Time dwarfs other games in comparison because it’s a good game, but it’s also an old game. Over the years it does hold up, but in my mind there are plenty of other Zelda games that have come along that can hold an equal candle to Ocarina of Time’s success. The Wind Waker, Skyward Sword, and Breath of the Wild; just to name a few. Ocarina of Time is not my favorite Zelda game, I just feel like there are other games in the series that are better, and that have gotten better for me as time has gone on.
Hot take number two: Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is a good game. This is a hill that I’m ready to die on. I loved this game. The music was excellent, it took everything good from Hyrule Warriors and made it better, and made what was not good from the previous game and improved on it. I loved that it also expanded more of Breath of the Wild’s central story and adding some new things too. I know that it got a lot of hate, and I feel like I am among the few that really enjoyed this game.
Those are my hot takes regarding Zelda, now I want to hear yours! Let us know your thoughts and feelings on Zelda in the comments below.
