They’re scary, murderous, carry epic weapons, and come in many colors; Lynels. Lynels are not a new beast to The Legend of Zelda, but they make their glorious return in Breath of the Wild. I recently posed the question, “What do Lynels think about while pacing around?” I definitely received some interesting answers, but most of them stemmed around the subject of murdering anything that crosses its path.

I have some other thoughts, though. Lynels are obviously smarter than the average Bokoblin, so they must be thinking about something. Even the Hyrule Compendium in Breath of the Wild calls them intelligent:

“These fearsome monsters have lived in Hyrule since ancient times. They possess intense intelligence, resilience, and strength, making them among the most dangerous monsters in all the land. This is compounded by the fact that they have a natural resistance to all elements. You would be wise to challenge a Lynel only if you’re very well prepared.”

I would imagine that they think about guarding their territory, mercilessly destroying anything that enters, and what to do after they defend that territory. I also like to think that they think about how to pass the time. It’s not often that Link wanders into the area of a Lynel. I also wonder if they think that they are invincible.

All of these are one writer’s thoughts, though. What do you think? Sound off in the comments below!
