Daily Debate: How Would a Space-Themed Zelda Game Play Out?

The Legend of Zelda at its core is a fantasy, but developers have never been afraid to throw other sci-fi elements into the mix. As Link, we hop dimensions, travel through time, shrink to a near microscopic height. Breath of the Wild even has some post apocalyptic elements to it. While the game never strays too far from its fantasy roots, these sci-fi elements add a unique touch that allows them to stand apart from one another. But, there’s one sci-fi theme we’ve yet to explore. The final frontier, space.

We could visit exotic worlds with alien terrain. Fight a whole new breed of bad guys (space Hinox anyone?), get a plethora of new weapons such as laser swords or photon blasters. Link could even wear new outfits like a flight suit or a set of power armor. He’d likely need clothing that would protect him in these new climates.

Could you see Link flying a star fighter? Perhaps.  Although, if Hylian technology were to progress to the point of space travel, I personally envision gateways or portals powered by magic as the mode of transportation. The Calamity known as Ganon could have grown so powerful that he is now star bound and a threat to the entire universe.
