With the upcoming release of the latest Princess Peach spinoff, Princess Peach Showtime!, on March 22nd, 2024, it’s made a glaring hole in the Zelda series library all too obvious: why hasn’t Princes Zelda been the titular hero of her own adventure? The Zelda games continue to innovate and expand on the formula, and yet Nintendo refuses to budge on this one component. Princess Zelda has been playable in other spin-offs like Hyrule Warriors and Cadence of Hyrule as part of an ensemble cast, but she’s never led her own, unique adventure in the same way that Princess Peach has. As more time goes by, it feels like a huge misstep. Zelda is a beloved character many fans can admire and respect. She has the wisdom and magical prowess to lead her own story, so why won’t Nintendo let her?

After all, Princess Peach Showtime! looks like it will be a genuine blast, granting Peach unique powers and a fun premise that both fits her character and is different from an adventure Mario or Luigi would venture on. A strategy RPG or a roguelite pilgrimage revolving around Princess Zelda are just a couple of the genre-bending journeys she could take. It would be unique from the adventures we often follow Link on while giving Zelda a chance to truly shine and be in the spotlight. For too long, she’s been relegated to the damsel in distress and locked away in a castle; it’s long overdue for Nintendo to change that.

What do you think? Would you like to see Princess Zelda star in a spin-off game like Princess Peach has? Let us know in the comments!
