Daily Debate: Should Nintendo Return to the Iconic Green for Link’s Next Look?
Posted on May 23 2024 by Connor Butler
There is no doubt that Link is one of the most recognizable heroes in video games. One look at those pointed ears, blonde hair, and green tunic and you know exactly who you’re looking at. When Breath of the Wild released an outfit customization option, it was clear that Nintendo was moving towards a new aesthetic direction for the hero of Hyrule, favoring the cobalt blue of the Champion’s Tunic over the iconic green from years past.
While the new blue truly does suit the hero, it would be interesting to see the next title reutilize his pointed hat, and maybe see some kind of reimagining, instead of a subtle reference like the “Garments of the Wild” from Breath of the Wild. (Although, I’ll never get tired of Link’s new Octorock undies.)
On the other side of things, being able to personalize the hero felt a little more personal. In titles past, the most personalization we ever got was switching to fireproof or waterproof tunics that looked strikingly similar to the green. Having a whole slew of new outfits to choose from made playing Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom an immersive experience, which made for a great overall gameplay experience.
What do you think? Should Nintendo go back to the green? Or stick with a new look? Let us know in the comments!
