First introduced to the Zelda world 32 years ago, the Blade of Evil’s Bane, AKA the Master Sword has been a key staple in the series in nearly every game since. Though its powers and abilities have seen some small changes over the past few decades, it is still the key item used to help vanquish any darkness that threatens Hyrule. With what is considered to be one of the most iconic weapons in video game history at the helm of this long-storied franchise, of course it should be featured in the upcoming Zelda film…right?

I’m going to go off on a limb here and say there is a very high likelihood that we will in fact see Link wield the Master Sword in the live-action adaptation. I can see him obtaining it around the start of the third act, giving him the power he’s needed throughout the entire film to finally vanquish Ganon. As I previously stated, it’s an iconic weapon from within the video game community, so of course it’ll make an appearance. However, should Link be wielding it in the very first Zelda live-action movie?

Let’s look at it one way in that the weapon hasn’t been used to vanquish every single evil that has decided to cross Link’s path. In over ten adventures our favorite hero has gone on throughout the franchise, he has managed to save the day with no help from the Master Sword. Heck, if you wanted to, you could beat the three recent Calamity-focused Zelda titles without ever having to wield the Blade of Evil’s Bane.

If director Wes Ball decides it, we could have a Zelda movie focused on story beats from the original The Legend of Zelda or The Adventure of Link, where Link had to use a mix of different legendary tools in order to defeat Ganon. Then you could perhaps have the after credits scene (which Marvel Studios has made famous/infamous) cut to deep within the Lost Woods showing a lost Kokiri child stumbling upon it. You can then set up a sequel where Ganon (or Ganondorf) is more powerful, forcing Link to journey through the land of Hyrule in order to find this “legendary weapon” the Great Deku Tree speaks of.

It would be such a risky move for them not to introduce the Master Sword in the first Zelda live-action film, but there is the possibility that it could help show Link’s growth into the definitive hero he needs to be in a potential sequel. There’s a small chance they pull a Zelda series move and just have the next movie be one of his descendants, but you never know when it comes to Hollywood.

What do you folks think? Should Link wield the Master Sword in the Zelda movie, or wait for a potential sequel? Let us know in the comments below!
