Throughout the past ten years or so, I’ve occasionally heard the phrase “It’s always your first Zelda game that ends up being your favorite.” Now, on its surface, I get where these folks are coming from. Depending on which game serves as one’s introduction to the series, that person might have a particularly strong emotional attachment to that game. With many of the people I’ve known and myself, however, that hasn’t exactly been the case.

In fact, simply identifying “my first Zelda” is a little tricky. Although I watched one of my brother’s friends play Ocarina of Time shortly after its release, Wind Waker was the first entry I actually played. That said, I had rented the game from Blockbuster for only a few days — not nearly enough time for a ten-year-old Brandon to complete it! It wasn’t until perhaps a year or so after Wind Waker’s release that I picked up Ocarina of Time and completed that.

So, for the sake of this Daily Debate — which, admittedly, isn’t so much a debate as it is me satisfying my own curiosity — let’s qualify our first Zelda game as the first one we actually completed. For me, Ocarina of Time is still oh-so-close to the top, bested only by Twilight Princess.

Does that phrase hold true for you, though? If not, then how far down the list is your first Zelda game? Let us know in the comments below!
