Schooling for Link is not completely unheard of in the Zelda franchise, take the Knight Academy in Skyward Sword for example. In this game, there are hints at the typical problems that students have to navigate such as preparing for exams, awkward crushes, bullying, physical training and studying folklore. So it did get me thinking about the potential of a Hyrule High School series. An education setting that has an intake of all manner of races, monsters and deities from the world of Hyrule. They bicker, learn and forge friendships together over the course of the academic year. So, for our Daily Debate today, I ask — is there a Zelda audience for a Hyrule high school-themed series?

Yes, there will be a lot of Zelda fans that will simply say no, leave The Legend of Zelda alone! I respect that. This idea begins to fall into the realm of fanfiction and artworks depicting alternative realities. Said idea may raise the heckles of gamers who simply want to enjoy Zelda and don’t want to mess around with the source material. I have to emphasize though this is only debate. Plus, some series such as Attack on Titan have already created their own spin-offs. Admittedly, with varying degrees of quality control, but it certainly hasn’t harmed the success of the series as a whole.

Personally, I can see the potential. The Legend of Zelda has some amazing characters that would benefit from an opportunity to be in the spotlight. A lot of in-game gags could be weaved into storylines and since Breath of the Wild, I’ve lost count of the number of Pinterest fan art of Link and Zelda together as school buddies. It might be fun to see Ganondorf as a teacher plotting to take over the school and become the new headmaster. The lessons from combat training with Impa to music lessons with Makar would have plenty of variety.  How does a Redead learn to move and scream like that? And maybe, just maybe, we could finally find out how Link can carry so much equipment without collapsing.

So, is there a Zelda audience for a Hyrule high school-themed series?  Or should the notion be torn up and thrown in Din’s Fire? Let us know in the comments below!
