Over the years the Zelda franchise has dabbled in many pieces of multimedia from a cartoon show to Monopoly-style games. Surprisingly though, they have yet to release an official tabletop roleplaying game set in the land of Hyrule. With the recent resurgence of popularity in mainstream media of tabletop RPG’s such as Dungeons & Dragons, it seems like Nintendo could be missing out on a lucrative and fun opportunity.

Traditionally, games like D&D are played with a group of friends creating characters and rolling dice to determine the results of actions and combat. While this is a gross simplification of the glory that is Dungeons & Dragons, the idea behind it is one we can all get familiar with. So how can that apply to Zelda? What fun mechanics or gameplay elements would set a Zelda TRPG apart from current industry standards? Would you play as Link or create your own characters within Hyrule, Termina, Lorule, New Hyrule, etc.? Would it involve rolling dice, playing cards, or perhaps unique mechanics such as the resource allocation used in the Marvel Universe Roleplaying Game?

These are all important questions to be answered when creating TRPG’s and we want to hear your great ideas! So how would you design a Zelda tabletop RPG? Put your design hats on and let us know in the comments below!
