Aren’t there games that sometimes you just get an itch to play, but maybe you don’t have the console anymore? This may be true for gamers out there who are new to the Zelda series, especially for Wii U HD ports like The Wind Waker HD or Twilight Princess HD. For some newcomers, they may never have really had exposure to these historic games that introduced us to the lovable Toon Link or the mischievous Midna.

With Nintendo having gone silent on the Zelda series for the past few months, I am curious if we will see the return of some port-ready games in the franchise. With the recent release of Skyward Sword HD gaining positive reviews, I could imagine Nintendo aiming to gear up a Switch port for The Wind Waker HD or Twilight Princess HD in the future to satiate fans. Nintendo would have a unique opportunity to even update gameplay and screen usage of these Wii U HD remakes. I personally didn’t find the usage of the Wii U’s dual screen format too groundbreaking if the second handheld screen was purely a menu screen for Link’s items or map. In fact, this was a similar limiting issue for other games on the 3DS, especially where the second screen was purely a map to address the console’s dual screen gimmick. If ported for the Switch, these two games could easily showcase the game’s already HD-ready single screen mode as present if you were to play solely in portable handheld mode for the Wii U console.

Moreover, Nintendo could release both of these games as a bundle, mirroring the 2020 release of Super Mario 3D All Stars. If Nintendo wanted to go the extra mile, we could see an Ocarina of Time HD port as the cherry on top also. However, this may be asking too much of Nintendo right now.

Would you like to see a Switch port of The Wind Waker HD/Twilight Princess HD? Do you feel that in doing so may limit the future of the series and instead Nintendo should focus solely on new games? Leave your thoughts below!
