Having recently completed Link’s Awakening for Switch, I’ve been diving into the finer aspects of dungeon design. For our Daily Debate today, I’d like to know I you enjoy Dampé’s dungeon creator?

At first, I couldn’t get the hang of connecting rooms and my eardrums were ringing with an incessant beeping noise. Eager to get on with the game, I ignored Dampé for quite a while. It was only much later on when searching for heart pieces that I returned to the dungeon creator. This time I paid more attention to the hints and things actually started to click. I beat my first designer dungeons with little trouble, and found it oddly satisfying to get my stairs to connect the way I wanted them to!

There are some challenges to mix up the placement of your chambers, such as design restrictions, time limits, having three hearts, and when you can’t use your sword. This is fine, but after beating puzzles and bosses that I’d already done, it started to feel a bit stale. You can get new chambers and of course Shadow Link via amiibo, which certainly spices things up. I know friends that have really liked tinkering around with different chambers and created some pretty devious dungeons to boot! Personally, I found it an interesting distraction but I am glad that it is not compulsory to beat the game.

So what were your experiences using the dungeon creator? Do you find it irritating that you cannot share your dungeons online? What chamber combinations have you come up with? Share your thoughts on this debate in the comments below!
